Mental Wellbeing for Older People Training Course

Health & Social Care Training Courses

AIMS:
In a relaxed and informal atmosphere, workers will explore ways of promoting mental wellbeing for older people. Older people who are supported in ways which build confidence and promote independence have significantly better outcomes and maintain their skills for longer.

OBJECTIVES:
Via a range of group work, lecture and discussion, we will:

  • Consider what helps people to feel a sense of mental wellbeing. This would include spirituality, hopes and aspirations.
  • Person centred approaches to supporting people including plans and valuing people as individuals.
  • Building social capital and encouraging inclusion - this focuses on the relationships that a person has and can build on giving wider circles of support.
  • Examination of the social environment in which the person is living to help the person to experience relative wellbeing and gain a sense of comfort and control.

OUTCOMES:
By the end of the session, the worker will be able to examine the way care services are offered and will be able to identify positive ways of promoting individual's sense of mental wellbeing.
