AIMS:
In a relaxed and informal atmosphere, participants will explore the role of supervision in health, social care and social work settings. It will also consider the disciplinary process if, for example, there has been a breach in the duty of care or there are professional capability issues.

OBJECTIVES:
This will be achieved by:

  • Considering the role and function of supervision in caring services.
  • Exploring methods of supervision: preparation, aims and objectives and negotiating outcomes.
  • Examining the relationship in supervision: when to work collaboratively and when a more directed approach may be necessary.
  • Discussing shortfalls in performance and remedies.
  • Examining and evidencing the seriousness of misconduct, the seriousness of the incident; the significance of events and mitigating circumstances.
  • Exploring evidencing misconduct and the interface with other policies and procedures.
  • Consideration of the disciplinary process itself and the manager's role in this.

OUTCOMES:
By the end of the session participants will have had the opportunity to further their understanding of this subject and will have gained confidence in using supervision within their workplace and its role in potential disciplinary incidents.
