Half-day Overview

Aims:

This half day programme aims to give participants an overview of the main planks of Continuing Health Care Guidance, It will give an overview of the relationship between healthcare funding and social care, the context and purpose of Continuing Health Care (CHC) and how eligibility is assessed and determined. It will examine fast track arrangements, the interface with mental health, transitions from Children’s services and the relationship to carers. It will also consider dispute issues.

Objectives:

Taught via Zoom, this programme will aim to encourage participation, question and discussion to explore the key points and issues and will:

  • Consider the background and context of CHC including the interface with the social care legislation
  • Give an overview of the key concepts and the guidance’s specified values and principles
  • Examine how CHC funding is assessed, decided upon and reviewed along with the potential for conflict and dispute
  • Consider the relationship of CHC to Mental Health legislation, the interface with children’s services and transitions and how CHC relates to carers.

Outcomes:

By the end of the session, participants will have had the opportunity to begin to gain an understanding of CHC guidance and decision making, and the issues which commonly arise for social care.
